マリリン・コクランスミス教授は、Cawthorne Professor of Teacher Education for Urban Schoolsという特別な称号をお持ちで、ボストン・カレッジの博士プログラムのデイレクターを務めています。アメリカ教育研究協会（AERA）の前会 長で、National Academy of Educationのメンバーにも選ばれました。Ken Zeichner教授と共にStudying Teacher Education: The Report of the AERA Panel on Research and Teacher Educationを編集し、又、Sharon Feiman Nemser、John McINtyre、Kelly Demersら学者と共にThird Handbook of Research on Teacher Educationを編集し、AACTEの機関誌Journal of Teacher Educationの編集長を2000年から2006年まで務めました。2009年に９冊目の著書Inquiry as Stance: Practitioner Research for the Next GenerationをSusan Lytleと一緒に出版しました。1982年にPennsylvania大学で教育学の博士号をとった後、多くの学術賞も受賞しています。AACTEの Pomeroy賞、Margaret Lindsey賞、又1995年と2005年に優秀論文賞を受賞しています。その他AERA、NAME等の研究実践賞(2006、 2004年)、又ニューヨーク教員養成大学連盟のその年に多くの影響力を与えた人に贈られる賞を2006年に受賞しています。更に、2006年にシンガ ポールのNational Institute of EducationではC.J. Koh Endowed Distinguished Professorshipという名誉ある教授職に就任し、国際的にも活躍されています。
